Introduction

Starting from the top, the announcement we made regarding the NFTs — we’ll be minting our apartment NFTs on Ethereum. The main reason is because Ethereum has a bigger community, larger reach, which allows partner with a lot more projects. We are currently in discussion with a lot of exciting projects, stay tuned! We will start with marketing this month, so keep your eyes open.

Our NFTs will be Omnichain. Omnichain NFTs are basically NFTs that you mint on any chain (Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, Harmony…) and then you’re able to bridge them to another chain within seconds. The bridge is fast, safe and doesn’t cost much at all.

For example, if we look at our apartments — they act as a proof of ownership, meaning you own that land within the game, and this ownership may be present on any chain. You just need to connect your wallet to the game.

Getting our own subnet.

We planned to launch on Harmony because the fees are low. But during the development phase for the past four months, we have built a lot of things and realized some problems that Harmony has. If you look at a simple battle within our game, you are fighting a monster. If you want to capture it, you send a tx to initiate — what happens if that tx fails? You might even end up in a situation where you are not able to mint the monster at the end of the battle. These problems can affect the overall user experience and the overall gameplay of our game.

So therefore we are launching on our own subnet.
The solution for this is to have our own chain. We reached out to Avalabs and we will launch our own subnet in the Q3.

Ava Labs will support DeFimons

The in-game skins, monsters, in-game items, etc. will be minted on the subnet, but they will be supported by Layer 0. All our NFTs will be Omnichain and tradable on Ethereum, even if they are minted on our subnet.

LayerZero will support DeFimons

I’ll start taking in different questions and I’ll also answer some of the questions that you might have regarding the launch.

AMA questions

Q (ToriMon) : “Need more detail about apartment minting.”

A : So, apartments are in game land, they have a lot of utility. The utility varies depending on what you want. Essentially, what you will get is a whole place where players are moving around and interact with others — we will be adding different features within the apartments, such as whiteboards, proximity audio, interactive furniture items and more.

whiteboards demo
  • Invite your friends over (and create a list of who’s allowed, or not)
  • Hang your NFTs within your apartments
  • Draw the whole apartment building
  • Drag & drop furniture items
  • Play music, work & have fun together

This will be really useful for guilds and smaller teams.

Then, to answer your question, these apartments will be launched first, before monsters. Because they are limited and they will hold more value in the long run. Apartments will be constant and in demand by different communities who want to integrate our games. For example there’s a project called Karafuru on Ethereum, a huge project and community, the NFTs owners will be able to enter our game, directly login and will be able to see their karafuru in the skin selection menu and move around as a karafuru within the game. We have been working on different skins so here’s an example (Ed. : posted on Defimons discord) :

Karafuru’s in-game skin

This will be within the game, such as integration of other projects as well. On launch, we are planning to integrate at least 15 to 20 projects from Ethereum and at least 5 from Avalanche. Once we’ve grown significantly, we will limit the projects to integrate the ones who own an apartment and projects will need to buy an apartment to integrate within our game. That’s how the demand will be generated, and apartments will act as a clean slate for us. Because we already have all the integrations such as whiteboard, proximately audio, screen sharing, all these things are already built and have been tested. We are still looking for different ideas and different integrations that we can do such as decentralized music, Spotify integrations etc. You can come to us with your suggestions. What would you like to see?

Dingos owners will be able to login and they’ll be in a prisoner outfit without moving their NFT from harmony. We will support all chains that are EVM-based.

Q (ToriMon) : “ while having an apartment is for the use of healing monsters, how long is the ETA from minting the apartment to using it for healing monsters ? So can we expect some kind of date of monster airdrops so we can use our apartment ? or will there be some other use for the apartment, because I thought the P2E aspect of defimons is playing with monsters. but apartment staking is not that bad either.”

A : Integration such as healing monsters will be after the initial game launch. Monsters taking place within the apartments, so you’ll be able to stake your monsters to regenerate health. This means that you won’t have to pay for health packs or craft items that are usable for health packs.

We’ll focus on that after the initial launch. As I said, apartments are a clean slate and we are open to ideas. We are really excited about it, because apartments bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3, and that’s our target. Bring in users from web2, who wouldn’t interact with DeFi protocols, who wouldn’t usually use NFTs. We give them a nostalgic game to play, they enter the game, play the game and then interacts with DeFi protocols and have fun. Also as I mentioned, we’ll be integrating DeFi protocols for lending, liquid swap and all these things. We will encourage users to learn about different things, about different NFTs projects and DeFi protocols and get rewarded for it. These rewards will come as in-game items, and we have crafted the economy system to hold as much value for the in-game items as possible.

That is a really complex vision of the game. It’s complex and simple as the same time, if you want to know more, it’s similar to how Pokemon works. You can spam buttons or choose to explore how different types of monsters react to different types of attacks, etc.

Q (Don Ramon) : “Apartments will be ERC-1155? Data is stored on-chain?”

A: Apartments are ERC-721 tokens, each apartment is different, you’ll be able to see them on Opensea. If you view the apartments on Opensea, you will be able to directly see the apartment design.

Q (Major Tommon) : “Does apartment size affect utility or just aesthetics?”

A: Apartment size does affect utility. Larger apartments will be able to hold in more monsters for staking, for the health regeneration part. The Smaller apartments will have a smaller size obviously, but the larger apartments have more benefits and more utility.

Q (beanmon) : “With the mints of apartment moving to ETH will the main marketplace for Defimons be Opensea? Or will we have an in-game marketplace alongside opensea?”

A: No, not Opensea. As I mentioned, theses NFTs are Omnichain, so you will be able to trade them within the game. We will have marketplaces for all the items, all the monsters and all the apartments in the game. But also, you will be able to trade them on Opensea. As you know, Opensea has a higher volume, so a higher chance to bring in new users.

Q (Qr0wdy) : “also, are the devs making it a point to avoid botting during the NFT mints? One way the community thought this could be done would be requiring completion of a quest to sort of “unlock” the chance to mint the apartments. is this something the team is considering for private sale/public sale?”

A: Yeah, this is easily something we can do. You have to complete a quest and then you get to mint the apartments. Personally, I would love to add the trash can kind of mini-game (Ed. : he is here referring to the “pick n’ lock” quest mechanism), where you have to unlock the page and then you’ll be able to mint the apartments.

Q (rOwdy) : “With apartment owners eventually getting airdropped, will a better apartment equate to a better mon being airdropped?”

A: That’s where the surprise comes in. For the apartments, we will be dropping boxes and won’t be directly airdropping mon. Once the box is dropped then it’s up to your luck, those boxes will contain other in-game NFTs as well. Each apartment gets one airdrop, although this is subject to change, we will go with the community feedback.

Q (Major Tommon) : “When can we expect the game to exist in beta?”

A: Normally games take years to make, to be honest you have seen the whole game progress over the last four months. We started from a simple map where you could only see other people and you didn’t even have a name. Now we have a complex framework which is fully extendable. We are building a lot of things and we will be sharing all this very soon. Most importantly, the apartment builder has been built really fast and will hopefully be launching this month.

Q (E-bum) : “What advantages do you think the 32-bit atmosphere and style of Defimons has over the sophisticated graphics that many of the new AAA teams are going after?”

A: The big advantage is that we can expand fast. We will be focusing on different types of towns: these could be futuristic towns, these could be towns old school with everything built out of stone, these could be villages etc.

We’ll be expanding the map a lot for you to explore, and we’ll be able to add different content to the game really fast. This is the biggest advantage we have over AAA titles. Because even if you are building on Unity, you have to build a lot more.

Q (beanmon) : “I saw in the dev note update medium article that you had a new art direction you were taking and leaked a demo of some concept art for what a new hospital building might look like. Should we expect an entirely new art style for the game upon launch? Will the art of the monster change to stay consistent with the new style?”

A: This is something we are testing for characters and for map design. The game is going under a lot of changes. I’ll share some examples of the new map design :

New buildings

These are a part of the old school towns that I mentioned. Everything is built in stone and these buildings will be present there. We will have different kinds of towns. We can talk about these in a future AMA.

Q (rOwdy) : “hey again guys. Read through the docs again, checked out the roadmap and saw it was still a tad dated. checked the discord for updates, saw one was coming but is there an updated roadmap to be pushed out, in the works, or?”

We will be updating the documentation soon. There are a lot of changes going on and that’s why we are currently running this AMA. A lot of things are planned with the roadmap, and we’re adding quite a few things such as farming and fishing. Even some new experiences beyond questing.

Closing Remarks

I hope this was a great session and that it helped you to understand our project, the near future and the integrations we are planning. I had a lot of fun answering your questions, thank you very much for your support!
